Having trained tirelessly through the cold, the rain and the snow, CUCC approached their first tournament of 2018 with confidence. The latest edition of the regional Division 3 tournament saw Cambridge making the quick trip to Stevenage to play four games against local rivals, including club sides Castle and Nomads, as well as university teams from London (combined colleges) and Surrey.

CUCC sent two teams to the recent BUCS Canoe Polo Championships – 28th-30th April. We had a fantastic weekend – with hotly contested games, much improvement in our play and most importantly a fun (and very very colourful) 80’s themed party! Thanks to everyone who drove and refereed throughout the weekend!

Our first tournament of the year was at Warwick University. It was a tough tournament but gave several new players valuable experience as we build towards BUCS and Varsity competitions in 2017. A full report is here.
The Varsity marathon races took place over a four-mile course running between the town centre and Grantchester, with the results decided by the aggregated scores of the first three finishers from each university in each race. The men’s race ran first and was well contested with five paddlers from each of Cambridge and Oxford. Victory was taken by Sam Plummer for Cambridge, showing his considerable experience, though the team was unable to follow his example with three capsizes (and a marauding swan) killing off their chances of victory.
